Unable to display the folder.

When using Microsoft Outlook, you may encounter the error message, "Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location."  The Microsoft Outlook PST file has either been deleted, relocated or the file has been locked.  In all likelihood, the file has been locked and you can resolve this issue by rebooting the computer.  Microsoft Outlook will then return to working properly. http://www.smartnetadmin.com

What are the available options for performing a Server backup in a business network environment?

In a home network environment, the requirements for a backup process are quite simple.  It is not uncommon to use a Simple Copy/Paste process from a computer to an external hard drive.  In a business network environment however, the requirements are much higher due to the technology utilized by Windows Server.  There are a variety of backup software titles in the marketplace but the great majority are not designed for a Windows Server environment.  For example, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server and other Server-based components require a Windows Agent in order to perform a contextual backup.  The majority of backup solutions in the marketplace often overlook this basic requirement.  Therefore, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server and other Server-based components are not backed up - therefore this critical data would be lost.   This is only one example of why it is important to have a ...

How do you extract data from the Microsoft Tape Backup Format (BKF)?

Some backup software programs such as Microsoft Backup and Symantec Backup Exec utilize the Microsoft Tape Backup Format (BKF).  On occasion, you may find that the data contained within the BKF files cannot be restored using the normal restore process.  When you attempt to run the restore process, the backup software reports that one or more backup files using the BKF format are corrupt.  There are a number of tools in the marketplace which claim to resolve this issue.  However, I found that the only tool that was able to resolve this issue was Get Data Repair My Backup .  In a similar fashion as WinZip or WinRar, Get Data Repair My Backup was able to extract all of the files from within the BKF file format.

Unknown Device

On occasion, you may encounter an Unknown Device in Device Manager.  You may have difficulty in identifying the device.  To resolve this issue, right-mouse click the Unknown Device and select Properties. Click the Details Tab.  From the drop-down list, select Hardware Ids.  Within the Hardware ID is a string related to the Vendor which manufactured the device as well as a Device ID which identifies the exact part.  Using the http://www.pcidatabase.com , you can often identify both the Vendor and Device ID.  For example, ATK is the Vendor ID for AsusTek.  8086 is the Vendor ID for Intel.  WDC is the Vendor ID for Western Digital Corporation.

RAID Degraded

If you are using an Intel RAID Controller, you would normally use the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager Utility for Windows to resolve this issue.  Open the Intel Matrix Storage Console and right-mouse click the degraded drive. Mark the drive as Normal.  The RAID Controller will then attempt to rebuild the drive array.  This may take several hours to complete.  If you are experiencing this problem on a routine basis, it is an indication that there is a problem with the RAID Controller on the motherboard or with the drives.  You may need to replace the motherboard and/or the drives.  If you are using Western Digital drives, it is recommended that you use Western Digital RE (RAID Edition) drives. http://www.smartnetadmin.com
