This documentation has been designed to overcome the limitation that was introduced by the initial release of Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003. The initial release resulted in the failure of Server Tools/Intranet Components when installing CD3. The following steps resolve this issue.
This particular documentation only covers the initial setup and installation of Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003. It does not cover the setup of User Accounts, Folder Shares, Printer Shares, Printer Redirection, Security Groups, Login Scripts, Group Policies, etc.

This documentation is designed for the following configuration:
- The Server is using an Intel S3200SHV ATX Motherboard with an ICH9R Raid Controller.
- The Server will act as a file server as well as a mail server using Microsoft Exchange Server.
- The network is protected by a corporate security appliance such as a Watchguard Firewall.
- In order to utilize Microsoft Remote Web Workplace over SSL, port forwards are enabled for ports 3389 (Remote Desktop Protocol), 4125 (Remote Desktop Protocol over WWW) and 443 (SSL).
- A Public Static IP Addresses has been obtained from the ISP and associated with the router.
- A Private Static IP Address is assigned to the Server.
- The Domain Controller is the only DNS and DHCP Server on the network - DHCP is disabled in all routers.
- The Domain Controller DHCP Scope manages all client computers and printers on the network using Private IP Addresses.
- Public DNS Entries are in place for Reverse DNS, Sender Policy Framework and Domain Keys in order to properly route outbound email using Microsoft Exchange Server.
- An SSL Certificate is installed and configured for use with Microsoft Outlook Web Access/Microsoft Internet Information Server.
- The LAN antivirus software is Trend Micro Worry Free Business Security Advanced.
- The LAN backup software is Symantec Backup Exec as well as Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery.
- The C Drive contains only the OS. All remaining components of Windows Small Business Server are installed on Drive E. All customer data is saved on Drive E.
Installing the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003
- Download Intel® Matrix RAID Driver for Windows - Intel® 82801IR/IO I/O Controller Hub (ICH9R) from Intel website.
- Copy 32-bit drivers to floppy disk. Floppy disk should contain the following files in the root directory: iaAhci.inf, iaAhci.cat, iaStor.inf, iaStor.cat, iaStor.sys, and TxtSetup.oem.
- Connect USB floppy disk drive to Server.
- Turn Server on.
- Boot from Windows Small Business Server 2003 CD1.
- Hit F6 to install Third Party Drivers.
- When prompted, insert floppy disk into floppy drive.
- Select ICH8R/ICH9R driver for Server.
- Hit Enter to continue setup process.
- When prompted, create 40GB C Drive and Remaining Space for E Drive.
- Setup files will be installed and server will automatically reboot.
- Server will then boot from hard drive.
- Enter Company Name and Name.
- Enter CD Key.
- Enter Computer Name for Server.
- Enter administrator password.
- Set Date and Time.
- Setup will continue copying files and then automatically reboot.
- Upon reboot, cancel the Continuing Windows Small Business Server Setup.
- Open the Administrative Tools - Computer Management Control Panel.
- Click Disk Management.
- Temporarily change the D drive to F drive.
- Change the E drive to D drive. Right-mouse click the D Drive and click Format so that it is using NTFS.
- Now change the F Drive to E drive.
- First partition is now C, second partition is now D and the CDROM is now E.
- Now we have to change the registry to reflect that the CDROM Source Path is now using the E drive.
- Click Start - Run.
- Type: regedit
- Browse to the following registry keys and Replace the D:\ to E:\ in each of the registry keys - leave the remaining information intact:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Transaction Server\Setup(OCM)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion - Close regedit.
- Reboot.
- Upon login, disconnect USB floppy drive.
- Connect Server to network switch/firewall/router/hub using ethernet cable.
- Configure TCP/IP on network card - normally 192.168.1.100, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.100.
- Insert the Intel Deployment Assistant CDROM into the CDROM drive.
- Browse to E:\drivers\nic and then copy intel-lan_msft_12.4_whql.zip to the Windows Desktop.
- Extract intel-lan_msft_12.4_whql.zip to Desktop\intel-lan_msft_12.4_whql.
- Open the System Control Panel - Hardware Devices and Update the Unknown Ethernet Controller so that it is now using Desktop\intel-lan_msft_12.4_whql.
- Now that the Intel Ethernet Controller is installed, it is time to install the Chipset Driver.
- Double-click My Computer.
- Double-click the E Drive.
- Click Drivers and Utilities.
- Click Microsoft Windows.
- Click ICH9 Chipset Drivers.
- Double-click Setup.
- When prompted, click reboot.
- Eject the Intel Deployment Assistant CDROM from the CDROM drive.
- Upon login, all drivers are now installed. You can now delete the intel-lan_msft_12.4_whql.zip and the intel-lan_msft_12.4_whql folder on the Windows Desktop.
- Insert the Windows Small Business Server CD1 back into the CDROM drive.
- Close the Auto-Play Setup Menu that appears.
- Double-click the Continue Setup shortcut on the Windows Desktop.
- Set your Domain Name/ NETBIOS / Active Directory Names and click Next.
- Change the IP Address back to 192.168.1.100 and click Next.
- Active Directory will then be installed. Your server will reboot automatically.
- Upon login, the setup will continue. Click Next.
- On the Data Folders page, change all of the entries with C:\ to D:\.
- Click Next.
- On the Component Summary Page, click Next.
- Setup continues automatically.
- If Setup is using the Windows Small Business Server defective CD3, Server Tools will fail upon Post Installation.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Click OK to restart.
- Using Add/Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows Components, remove the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration.
- Install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
- Install Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack 3.
- Install Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
- Install Windows XP SP2 for Client Deployment - KB891193.
- Install Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
- Install KB909544 - Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (SHAREPOINT).
- Install KB832880 - Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services.
- Delete the Continue Setup shortcut.
- Reboot.
- Browse to http://update.microsoft.com and install all Windows Updates.
- Reboot.
- Click Start - Control Panel – System.
- Click Advanced.
- Under Performance, click Settings.
- Click Adjust for best performance and click Apply.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Virtual memory, click Change.
- Click Custom size.
- Change the Initialize size so that it matches the Recommended paging file size shown below.
- In the Maximum size, add 1000 to the Recommended paging file size. Example: Initialize Size - 6136, Maximum 7136.
- Click Set.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
- Reboot.
