It has been my experience that following the domain transfer process outlined on the Melbourne IT website produces zero results. In my opinion, the help site fails to communicate the actual process utilized to transfer a domain away from Melbourne IT. Unlike all other Registrars, Melbourne IT requires that you first login to your account and obtain your Registry Key. You are then required to email Melbourne IT with your Registry Key and request your Authorization Code. In four to five business days, Melbourne IT then responds to your request with your Authorisation Code. At your New Registrar, you are then able to enter the Authorization Code which allows you to complete the Domain Transfer Process.
If Melbourne IT does not assist with your domain transfer process, you may wish to fillout the Internic Complaint Form to report your experience: http://reports.internic.net/cgi/registrars/problem-report.cgi
