Some computer manufacturers released to manufacturing builds of Microsoft Windows XP that were preloaded with FAT32. The preferred and standard file system is NTFS. NTFS is a far more secure and capable file system.

- On the Windows Desktop, double-click My Computer.
- Right-mouse click your primary boot partition - normally the C Drive and select Properties.
- On the General Tab, confirm that the File System says FAT32.
- Click Start - Run.
- Type: cmd
- Click OK.
- Type: convert c: /fs:ntfs
- Hit Enter.
- Push Y to force dismount.
- Push Y to schedule conversion on system restart.
- Click Start - Shutdown - Restart and restart the computer.
- Allow the FAT32 to NTFS file system conversion to complete.
