This tab has been recovered.

When using Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, you may encounter the error message: "This tab has been recovered."  The current tab is then closed and the following error message is displayed: "Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer."  In addition to these error messages, you may also see the error message: "Memory could not be written."

There are multiple posts on the internet which recommend disabling Data Execution Prevention (DEP) in order to resolve this issue.  DEP should never be disabled.  DEP is a security feature within Microsoft Windows which has been designed to protect the computer from malware infection.

Typically, the cause of this issue is due to a conflict between Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and Oracle JVM.  You may encounter this error message when using the Nvidia website which uses both Javascript and ActiveX.  To resolve this issue, please perform the following steps:
  1. Download the MSJVM Removal Tool.

  2. Extract and then run the MSJVM Removal Tool.

  3. Reboot the computer.

  4. Using Add/Remove Programs, uninstall all instances of Oracle Java.

  5. Reboot the computer.

  6. Install the latest version of Oracle Java.

Another common cause of this issue is an add-on in Microsoft Internet Explorer such as a toolbar or other add-on.

  • Resetting Internet Explorer to Default Settings via Internet Explorer - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - Reset.

  • Disable the add-on via Internet Explorer - Tools - Manage Add-ons

  • Uninstall the add-on via Add/Remove Programs.

You may find that updating to the latest Nvidia Nforce and/or Nvidia Geforce drivers also help resolve this issue
