Uninstalling/Installing Software Applications (Rebooting Computer) - Resolving Windows Installer Corruption
When using the Windows Operating System, the previous version of a software application must be removed prior to the installation of a new version of the same software application. In order to achieve this, you must first remove the program using Add/Remove Programs and then secondly reboot the computer. After rebooting the computer, you can then install the new application. Rebooting the computer fully uninstalls the existing application. If you (a) do not uninstall the existing application using Add/Remove Programs and then reboot the computer or (b) install the new version of the application on top of the existing version of the application, you will corrupt the computer. Corruption can cause the computer to act in an erratic fashion not just in relation to the software application. It can cause the computer to reboot, the computer to run slowly, Internet Explorer not to function, etc. This behavior can mimic a virus infection but it is not. The issue is the proper use of the Windows Operating System. It is not uncommon to see this issue with the removal and installation of: Antivirus Applications, Microsoft Office and HP Full/Basic Multifunction Printer Drivers. When the computer has been corrupted, you must then perform a variety of steps. As an example, following are the steps that are performed to resolve this form of corruption with an HP Full/Basic Multifunction Printer Driver:
