You may encounter the error message: "Stop 0x000000ED – Unmountable Boot Volume." To resolve this issue, first replace the IDE cable to your Hard Drive as well as your CDROM Drive. If this does not resolve the issue and you are attempting to boot from your CDROM Drive when this error occurs, replace the CDROM Drive. If you are attempting to boot from your Hard Drive when this error occurs, perform the following steps:
- Boot from your Windows XP CD.
- At the Start Up Menu, hit R to select the Recovery Console.
- At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /p
- Hit the Enter Key.
- Chkdsk /p should report errors found. Run chkdsk /p again until it does not report any errors.
- After no errors have been found, type: fixboot
- Hit the Enter Key.
- Enter Y to confirm the task.
- Upon completion of the task, reboot the machine.
