MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING(12029, 0, WinHttpSendRequest)

You may encounter the error message MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING(12029, 0, WinHttpSendRequest)  when attempting to update Malwarebytes.  This error is produced when Malwarebytes is unable to access resources found on the internet.  It is always important that Malwarebytes is using the latest updates when utilized.  When a computer is behind a firewall or attached to a Virtual Private Network, Malwarebytes may require a Proxy Server IP Address in order to access resources found on the internet.  However it should be noted that most environments do not require a Proxy Server at all.  The quickest method to determine if Malwarebytes may require a Proxy Server IP Address is to check the settings of Microsoft Internet Explorer:
  1. From within Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Tools.

  2. Click Internet Options.

  3. Click the Connections Tab.

  4. Click the LAN Settings Button.

  5. Where it says Use a Proxy Server for your LAN, make note of the Proxy Server IP Address and Port Number if this option is checked.
If Microsoft Internet Explorer is using a Proxy Server IP Address, you may then want to plug this information into Malwarebytes:
  1. From within Malwarebytes, click the Settings tab.

  2. Click the Updater Settings tab.

  3. Type the Proxy Server IP Address into the Proxy Server field.

  4. Type the Port Number into the Port field.
Malwarebytes will now update properly.
