Eset Nod32 Antivirus & HP Officejet 6500 Printer Driver

If you have Eset Nod32 Antivirus installed on your computer, you may encounter the following message when installing the printer driver for an HP Officejet 6500.  This message is incomplete.  This message applies to Eset Smart Security which includes the Eset Personal Firewall.  Eset Nod32 Antivirus does not include a Personal Firewall.

IMPORTANT: ESET firewall software has been detected on your computer system. Before continuing, perform the steps below to enable "Interactive Filtering Mode."

Do this now (these steps apply for most ESET firewall versions):
  1. From the System Icon Tray, click on the ESET Smart Security icon and select "Open Window."

  2. Click on "Setup" located on the left side of the ESET screen.

  3. Click on "Toggle Advanced Mode."

  4. From the Toggle Advanced Mode screen, select "Yes."

  5. From the Setup screen, select "Personal Firewall."

  6. From the Personal Firewall screen, select "Switch to interactive filtering mode."
Enabling interactive filtering mode will cause the ESET firewall to provide pop-up warning messages during the HP software installation.

You must select the checkbox labeled "Remember action (create rule)" then click the "Allow" button for each pop-up screen seen.

Event ID: 7001 - Source: VSS - Unable to create a shadow copy

When using Microsoft Windows Server, you may encounter the error message: "Unable to create a shadow copy."  In the Event Viewer, you may find the following Event: "Event ID: 7001 - Source: VSS - Unable to create a shadow copy."  This event involves the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).  Most likely the Server was rebooted while creating a Shadow Copy.  Many websites describe deleting or renaming the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WBEM directory used by Windows Management Instrumentation to resolve this issue.  This is not correct.  Following are the steps to resolve this issue: Double-click My Computer. How do you stop an unstoppable Windows Service?

You may encounter a Windows Service in Services that has the buttons for Start, Stop, Pause and Resume greyed out.  If you attempt to stop the Service using sc stop [servicename], you encounter the error message: "The requested control is not valid for this service."  To resolve this issue, please perform the following steps: Click Start - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. Double-click the relevant Service. Change the Service Start-Up Type to Disabled. Click Apply. Click OK. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL on your keyboard. Select Task Manger.
