Some errors occurred while processing the requested task.

If you begin to encounter the error message "Some errors occurred while processing the requested task." in Microsoft Outlook Express, it may indicate that your Outlook Express DBX files have become corrupt.  Corruption can occur due to fragmentation on your hard drive, a virus infection, the amount of mail stored within Outlook Express, etc., etc.  Unlike Microsoft Outlook PST files that can be repaired using the Microsoft Outlook Inbox Repair Tool, Outlook Express does not include a free repair tool.

Solution One

There are a number of commercial Outlook Express repair tools in the marketplace.  Many of them are not actual repair tools, they simply assist you in the process of recovering data from a corrupt DBX file rather than resolving issue directly.  Fortunately, Repair Tool for Outlook Express can directly repair the DBX files associated with your mail account.

Solution Two

Your next solution is to upgrade to a different mail client. 

Suggested Mail Client:

Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird

Microsoft Windows Vista
Microsoft Outlook, Windows Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird

Microsoft Windows 7
Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird

Please Note: Windows Mail is only recommended for use with Windows Vista.  Windows Vista includes Windows Mail which is an excellent mail client.  In Windows XP and Windows 7, the only comparable product is Windows Live Mail which is not the same as Windows Mail.  Windows Live Mail is not recommended for Windows XP and Windows 7.  It requires the creation and routine use of a Windows Live account in order to access the mail client.

Event ID: 7001 - Source: VSS - Unable to create a shadow copy

When using Microsoft Windows Server, you may encounter the error message: "Unable to create a shadow copy."  In the Event Viewer, you may find the following Event: "Event ID: 7001 - Source: VSS - Unable to create a shadow copy."  This event involves the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).  Most likely the Server was rebooted while creating a Shadow Copy.  Many websites describe deleting or renaming the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WBEM directory used by Windows Management Instrumentation to resolve this issue.  This is not correct.  Following are the steps to resolve this issue: Double-click My Computer. How do you stop an unstoppable Windows Service?

You may encounter a Windows Service in Services that has the buttons for Start, Stop, Pause and Resume greyed out.  If you attempt to stop the Service using sc stop [servicename], you encounter the error message: "The requested control is not valid for this service."  To resolve this issue, please perform the following steps: Click Start - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services.
