Windows Not Recognizing Secondary SATA Hard Drive + UEFI + Secure Boot

UEFI is the replacement of your Computer BIOS.  With the introduction of Secure Boot in UEFI, you may find that CD and DVD Boot Disks using WinPE no longer boot properly.  You may also find that Windows no longer detects the addition of a secondary SATA hard drive.  You can resolve this issue by temporarily disabling Secure Boot in UEFI.

Following are the steps to allow a Computer with UEFI and Secure Boot enabled to recognize the addition of a secondary SATA Hard Drive:

Please Note: Some Function Keys may be different in your UEFI.
  1. You may notice that UEFI recognizes the secondary SATA Hard Drive but when you boot to Microsoft Windows - it does not display the SATA Hard Drive in Device Manager.

  2. Reboot the computer.

  3. Hit DEL or F2 to enter UEFI.

  4. Set Secure Boot to Disabled or Legacy.

  5. Hit F10 to Save Changes to UEFI.

  6. Reboot the computer.

  7. Windows now detects the SATA Hard Drive in Device Manager.  You can now use Disk Management to FDISK and Format the Hard Drive.

  8. Once you have completed this process, reboot the computer.

  9. Hit DEL or F2 to enter UEFI.

  10. Set Secure Boot back to Enabled.

  11. Hit F10 to Save Changes to UEFI.

  12. Reboot the computer.

  13. Microsoft Windows can now fully utilize the secondary SATA Hard Drive.

How do you stop an unstoppable Windows Service?

The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer.

You may encounter the following error message when using the L2TP/IPSec VPN Client that is native to the Windows Operating System: "The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer."  This error message typically occurs when you are using the wrong Pre-Shared Key for your L2TP VPN.  This error message can occur when other components of your configuration are incorrect but the first thing to confirm is that you are using the correct Pre-Shared Key.
