Eset Nod32 - An error occurred while starting services. Analysis of application protocols (POP3, HTTP) will not function

Upon installing Eset Nod32 Antivirus and then rebooting the computer, you may encounter the error message: "An error occurred while starting services. Analysis of application protocols (POP3, HTTP) will not function."  In the Event Viewer, you may also see Event ID 7030 - The Eset service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly.  This issue occurs because of one or more of the following issues:

  • You are attempting to install Eset Nod32 Antivirus with User Account Control Enabled.

  • You are using an oudated version of the Eset Antivirus Setup program.

  • You have not properly uninstalled antivirus applications that were previously installed on this computer.
     
To resolve this issue, please perform the following steps:
  1. Using Add/Remove Programs, uninstall Eset Nod32 Antivirus.

  2. Reboot.

  3. Disable User Account Control.

  4. Reboot.

  5. Run the Eset Nod32 Antivirus Removal Tool.

  6. Reboot.

  7. Uninstall all previously installed antivirus applications using the appropriate Removal Tools.

  8. Reboot.

  9. Download the latest version of the Eset Nod32 Antivirus Setup program from eset.com and install Eset Nod32 Antivirus.

  10. Upon completion of installing the latest version of Eset Nod32, re-enable User Account Control.

This issue has been resolved.

The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer.

You may encounter the following error message when using the L2TP/IPSec VPN Client that is native to the Windows Operating System: "The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer."  This error message typically occurs when you are using the wrong Pre-Shared Key for your L2TP VPN.  This error message can occur when other components of your configuration are incorrect but the first thing to confirm is that you are using the correct Pre-Shared Key. If you are using the wrong Pre-Shared Key, the L2TP VPN connection will say Connecting for a long period of time and then display the error message: "The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer."
